The Rise of the NASCARVoter.
Reflections from below the Observation Deck
Yep, It’s election time here again and that means for most everyone that it’s a time for examining the potential candidates and their issues, but let’s turn the table and examine the issues of the American Voters in our age of fast-everything.
In the blazing fast information age our most popular sports exude action at such a fast pace there is no way one person can see it all, and there is no “sport” which has arisen in the past several decades which ties this pursuit of fast action with the American love of Automobiles like NASCAR does.
I happen to see an uncanny resemblance to the typical NASCAR racing fan and the average voter in the 2008
Apparently the NASCAR fan derives some sort of enjoyment from watching several hundred pounds of aluminum and fiberglass traverse a seemingly endless and monotonous circular track for hours on end. Round and round and round the cars go at breakneck speeds constantly moving forward but never actually getting anywhere. Many of these people love or hate a particular NASCAR team because of silly prejudices such as the model car being raced, who the sponsors are, or even the ‘cool’ factor of the paintjob and vinyl graphics application. This is but a partial insight into these minds, and although they are benign enough while sitting trackside on their beer-binging fat lazy asses, but put them into a voting booth and that’s when you see the horror of the brain damaged destruction these NASCARVoters can unleash upon the rest of us.
The NASCARVoter only comprehends sound-bytes and buzzwords. They prefer candidates whom avoid details when discussing their positions on the issues which concern most of us. The NASCARVoter tends to pick a candidate based using the same criterion that they use to pick their favorite NASCAR driver or team…outward appearance, sponsorships, and most likely based upon who is leading in the poles. They love circular logic and politicians whom talk in circles without saying anything significant just as much as they love the racetrack that goes nowhere but in circles. Since they typically have the attention span of a 7year old with a severe case of untreated Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), it should come as no surprise that they keep re-electing the same circle of bullshit Politicians and only changing a few drivers every election cycle. It follows that they never actually delve into the issues themselves through their own research and efforts, but rather, they get ‘educated’ from television infomercials and magazine advertisements. This is the American NASCARVoter.
It’s sad to think about the quality of political candidates and specifically the Presidential candidates we’re given this election cycle. What is even sadder is that these candidates are apparently the best Americans can put forth. If we’re pissed about the lack of quality in our candidates, then we should be pissed at ourselves for allowing the NASCARVoter mentality to have grown to such pandemic proportions. If you have a piece of shit and take a small piece of it and elevate it into leadership position, you’ve still got a piece of shit, only now it’s in a position to make the world more like home, more like shit.
Welcome to the world of the NASCARVoter and good luck because we’re going to need it!

If you're going to be at the
If you're going to be at the airport already, it might be worthwhile to drop by, but otherwise the observation area overlooks a quiet part of the domestic area. I've actually been by three times already (to see different lighting conditions), 70-270 and in total have seen only 1 319, 1 CRA and 2 DH3. There is a nice view out to Georgia Strait and Vancouver Island, but if viewing aircraft/movement is your thing, not really worth the time. Of course most international flights will have to taxi by to get to the south runway for departure, 640-863 but that's about it. 220-702
Worst of all (for me anyway), is that it's pretty useless for photography, VCP-310 as from the afternoon it's looking into the sun, and in the morning there are nasty reflections off the windows. 70-432
Like I said, nice to hang out/eat/snack/take a break if you're already there, but certainly not worth the effort of a trip out just to see it. Quite disappointing (from a spotter's point of view)...
